NYPD Fails To Box In Mercedes That Hit Mustang Mach-E Cop Car Head-On

  • A Mercedes-Benz driver escaped NYPD pursuit after a tense standoff.
  • The luxury car, possibly stolen, outran three NYPD cruisers.
  • The incident, caught on video, shows the Merc avoiding police blockade and fleeing.

New York can be a very wild city so seeing the unexpected there shouldn’t always come as a shock. Still, some instances where a driver seems to intentionally strike a police car are another matter altogether. That’s exactly what several bystanders witnessed last month before a Mercedes driver fled the scene with police in hot pursuit.

The video below comes to us from July 25 on the corner of Flushing Avenue and Humboldt Street. In it we see a pretty typical evening of traffic at around 8:22 p.m. As the dashcam car moves toward the intersection, an NYPD cruiser in the form of a Ford Mustang Mach-E turns from Humboldt into the oncoming lane of Flushing.

It’s at about the same time that we see the Mercedes approach while driving toward the NYPD officer in the oncoming lane as though this is a high-risk, low-speed game of chicken. The Mercedes initially pulls left but the police block them in by moving forward. The Mercedes backs up to try with more space but the NYPD closes the gap again and appears to make contact.

At this stage, the luxury automobile driver backs up a third time as officers on foot approach and begin striking the vehicle. It’s all a little too late though as the Mustang Mach-E driver doesn’t close the gap and the Mercedes is able to drive away. Three NYPD cruisers give chase but there are no reports for now about the outcome of the pursuit.

There’s no telling what exactly led up to this chase but the Mercedes is wearing a paper tag that could potentially indicate that it’s stolen or was used for some other nefarious purpose. Several sites in the tri-state area have come under fire for issuing fictitious or fraudulent tags of that type. Hopefully, the authorities found their person. For the rest of us, the lesson is clear: stay out of the way of the craziness you might see in New York – or any other place for that matter.
