  • The duo only had 12 hours to enjoy the stolen muscle car before they were caught.
  • One of the thieves has also been charged with breaking into around 10 other vehicles, including a police car.

Police in South Florida have arrested two men after they stole a 2021 Dodge Challenger R/T in the early hours of June 17 and led police on a chase later that same day.

Security camera footage from the home where the Challenger was stolen shows the two thieves breaking one of the car’s windows and pushing it onto the street, all while the alarm was blaring. They then took off in the powerful muscle car and for a while, probably thought they had escaped.

However, approximately 12 hours later, police located the Challenger and started to pursue it. Dashcam footage from an officer shows the thieves making an illegal right-turn with the cop car just behind. The driver then speeds through the parking lot of a small store and turns to the right, kicking out the rear of the car. While it appears the thief is moments away from spinning and crashing the Dodge, he manages to get the fishtailing under control and continues to accelerate.

However, he came unstuck when confronted with a T-intersection. The driver can be seen locking up the car’s brakes before flooring the throttle and trying to spin the car around to flee. The officer in pursuit used this as the perfect opportunity to slam into the side of the Challenger, pushing it into the dirt and convincing the driver to give up. He can seen surrendering towards the end of the video.

NBC6 reports local police arrested 21-year-old Kenneth Barahona and 40-year-old Edwin Figueroa at the scene. They also found a stolen gun inside the car.

Barahona has been charged with fleeing from police and also slapped with charges for smashing windows and breaking into roughly 10 vehicles, including a police car, earlier this month. Figueroa is facing theft and resisting arrest charges in addition to pre-existing criminal cases against him.
