SpaceX’s Starlink has expanded to the 300+ islands in the Republic of Fiji.

In mid-November 2023, Starlink was granted a license to provide internet services in Fiji.

“The licensing of Starlink for commercial use is a game changer for Fiji as it strengthens our resilience in providing connectivity during natural disasters — this also serves the purpose of the Fiji Government’s efforts in connecting the unconnected population in maritime communities without significant upfront capital costs incurred,” said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, SMEs, and Communications Manoa Kamikamica.

Starlink services align with the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission’s goal of implementing a competitive, fair, and dynamic market for internet services in Fiji.

Along with its expansion in Fiji, SpaceX celebrated the 99th market in which Starlink offers internet services. Indonesia is the most recent country to receive SpaceX’s Starlink internet connections.

Elon Musk launched Starlink in Indonesia with a visit to Bali over the weekend. He expressed his excitement for Starlink’s arrival in Indonesia, specifically in low connectivity areas.

“We are focusing this event on Starlink and the benefits that connectivity brings to remote islands. I think it’s really to emphasize the importance of interest connectivity, how much of that can be a lifesaver.”
